There has been much discussion of late about the typical cost of building a house in Ireland. The recent report produced by the economist Anthony Foley for the SCSI, ‘Policy Options for Supporting the Provision of Housing at Affordable Prices’, contained a very useful breakdown of such a typical cost. It is based on building a three-bed semi-detached house of 1,189 sq. ft and excludes the cost of the land. The details of the breakdown can be found on page 26 of the SCSI document, but here’s an easy visual guide.
