Legislation governing residential multi-unit developments came into effect in 2011. The Multi-Unit Developments Act regulates the management and ownership of the common areas in multiunit developments, and provides for the establishment of an owners’ management company (OMC) for each development. The Property & Facility Management Surveying Professional Group has developed professional guidance for members operating in this area. ‘The Property Management in Multi-Unit Developments Code of Practice’ covers professional standards, appointment of property management agents, procurement, insurance and general OMC obligations. The Code is developed as industry best practice and may be reviewed and updated in any future editions.
